Welcome to my PORTFOLIO

Sofia

This is me!!

ARTIST BIO:

I am Sofia/Nicolas Aguilar Quinones (She/her/it), I am a digital and physical illustrator based in Phoenix, Arizona. I am mostly self-taught in all the fields I practice in. I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in animation at Arizona State University. My illustrations consist of character design and attempts at different art styles, but I have branched out to experimentation with landscapes, anatomy and different mediums of art recently. Music, video editing, and voice work and writing for classes and my own time. I also started coding while making this website. I just started too which is why this is so barebones. I have yet to showcase any of me to most people at the moment outside of class. But I do show my art to my small following online and friends. My inspiration comes art from Late 90s’- early 2000s SEGA games and Newgrounds culture. I am queer so I love to explore themes of queerness and femininity in my art with the characters I draw and write, and I am motivated in spreading as much joy and positivity as possible in areas where that is lacking.

STATEMENT:

What inspires me to draw is the media I enjoy, like video games, other artists online and what makes me and those around me happy. I like to explore themes of queerness and femininity in my art and characters. My creative process is spontaneous, since it’s largely influenced by myself and things I like and those around me, that helps define my art because of creative liberties I take with what fits best to me. While I like what I do and how I do it, my art is very personal to me and that comes with a fear alienating people, being my biggest challenge. My art doesn’t have a large meaning because I never thought of telling one, but I do draw symbols that represent characters. If anyone wants to see meaning in that they absolutely can. I don’t know how my art could fit into the greater art world. I’m more akin to outsider artist. But I hope the little amount of people that do see it can be happy with what I make, and I hope to maybe to even inspire them to make people happy like I do or in a different way or medium.
